The practice

Chartered Engineering Company was founded in 1994 by Mr. Abdul Gafoor Patla. It began with a hotel in Bangalore and apartment buildings in Kannur, and grew into a project management consultancy with its own design-build team.

Over three decades CEC has worked with leading Kerala builders including Skyline, The Menhir People and Mascot, carrying out the civil works for their apartment towers in Kannur, Calicut and Kochi.

Alongside private work, CEC took on public infrastructure. It managed the Thavakkara Central Bus Terminal in Kannur, India's first BOT bus terminal, and developed the Kalpetta Bus Terminal Complex, its flagship, as concessionaire with the Government of Kerala, with Mr. Abdul Gafoor Patla as Managing Director of the project. The company's office is in that complex today.

As of today CEC has built about 2.5 million sq.ft across 12 completed projects.

From the founder

I started Chartered Engineering Company in 1994. Since then we have managed a hotel project in Bangalore, built apartment towers for Kerala's developers, designed and managed a medical college campus, and taken on two bus terminals with the Government of Kerala, one of them our own.

The work has taught me a few simple things. Get the drawings right before anyone digs. Be on site, not in the office. Tell the client the real cost and the real date, even when it is not what they want to hear. And finish what you start.
